The beginning of my journey to gather your stories.

Ok, so here I go.

"Vision without action is a daydream, Action without vision is a nightmare."

So, I have a vision and I am taking the actions I need to move me forward with a dream I have.

Beginning in April I will set out to visit farmers markets in the Pacific Northwest, and down the west coast through California. Initially, I had the idea of doing a nationwide search for stories to be in Remembering Our Roots now I am starting right where I am and the first volume will be from the west coast. This is much more manageable for me and I am not so overwhelmed by this prospect, as opposed to the whole country for one book, yikes!!!

I am going to set a table at the farmers markets and pass out information and forms for those who wish to participate with their stories. I am very excited about this and have lots to prepare before my initial outing. I love talking to people and I am so looking forward to meeting many who will share their wisdom, their families wisdom, and more.

I will keep posting about my progress and things I learn along the way.

This is a great adventure for me!

My Grandma Brown

This is my Grandmother, Anna Knapp Brown in 1903. This is her confirmation photograph, I love it. My Grandmother is part of the inspriation for this book. She did it all, raised seven children, canned foods from her fruit trees and garden, raised chickens in her yeard, had a vegetable garden, cooked everything for scratch,. of course and never used a plastic bag. She will be one of my relatives I include a story about in "Remembering Our Roots".

Remembering my Roots, entry #1 January 8th, 2010

This is my very first blog post, ever. So, I will start at the beginning (kind of) and go on from there. Where this will take me I do not know, but I love adventures. So, here I go.

I am working on a book "Remembering Our Roots" and the premise of this book is reducing, recycling, and reusing are really not a new idea. Our parents, grandparents, and even further back generations did conserve out of necessity and because their resources were so precious.

I envision my book to be a compilation of ideas using the wisdom from the past, our wisdom today, and what we will be able to do into the future to conserve our resources for future generations. This will be an adventure, because conservation does not have to be a burden, it can be exciting ( at least I think so) and fun to discover new ways of saving food, the environment, and our health.

With "Remembering Our Roots" I am looking for submissions of your own, a relative, or friend about how they conserve.....this book is focusing on food and ways we grow, buy, prepare, preserve, and store food. I am looking for recipes using local foods, urban farming, and more. As my blog continues you will get more examples and ideas of what I am looking to create this book.

So, that is the very beginning and onward from here. I am thrilled to be connecting with others and look forward to hearing from you.
